LASER EYE TREATMENT WITH RELEX SMILE PRO IN SWITZERLAND

SMILE Pro

Quite simple

SMILE Pro in four steps

Your laser eye treatment at betterview has four simple steps:

Four simple steps image
1

Preliminary examination

Open Icon

The free and no-obligation preliminary examination takes half an hour. We will establish whether your eyes are suitable for treatment with SMILE Pro. In addition to checking your eyesight, during the preliminary examination, your eyes will also be examined, and your previous visual aids will be analysed.

2

Main examination

Open Icon

During the 45-minute main examination, your visual acuity is confirmed again, and your eye is examined further. This is how we ensure that the treatment method chosen for you can provide the best possible result. The main examination is also free, with no obligation to purchase. You only incur costs if you decide to have laser eye treatment.

3

Treatment

Open Icon

Your eyes are anaesthetised with drops before the treatment. The Zeiss VisuMax 800 femtosecond laser is then used to create a thin lens, the so-called lenticule, and a small opening of a few millimetres in the cornea. The lenticule is then removed through this opening by the operating doctor. The entire treatment takes about 15 minutes for both eyes.

4

Follow-up

Open Icon

The first follow-up after a SMILE Pro procedure takes place four days after treatment. This is the first time your visual acuity is checked without visual aids. Generally, you will have regained a large part of your full vision after treatment with SMILE. Most people return to work and drive one day after the procedure.

Schedule your SMILE Pro treatment

In the following, we will explain step by step how your treatment with SMILE Pro at betterview works, from the first free preliminary examination and treatment to potential side effects and the recommended guidelines for an optimal healing process.

  • Before treatment

    Preliminary and primary examination

Following a free, no-obligation preliminary examination, the primary examination takes place. For this, it is important that you refrain from wearing contact lenses over the four days before the appointment and do not drive to the appointment. You will be given eye drops during the examination, which may impair your vision for a few hours. Therefore, you are not allowed to drive. The primary examination takes 45 minutes, where we check your visual acuity, the cornea, and the back of the eye to ensure that SMILE Pro is the most suitable treatment method for you.

  • Treatment day

    Treatment process and procedure

The third appointment at betterview is your treatment. Your eyes are anaesthetised with drops, the eye area is disinfected, and you are prepared for the treatment. The eyes are fixed with eyelid holders and then treated with the femtosecond laser. The laser creates a small opening and a thin corneal lens, the so-called lenticule. The operating doctor then removes this loose corneal lens through the opening. SMILE Pro is a minimally invasive treatment method. Allow around one hour for the entire appointment.

  • After the first few hours

    Possible symptoms

Immediately after the treatment, it is normal for your eyes to be sensitive to light, reddened, or you may experience a sensation of having a foreign body in your eye. Other symptoms may also include blurred vision, watery, dry or burning eyes, and temporarily fluctuating vision for the first 2–3 days. Therefore, it is recommended that you wear sunglasses on the way home to protect against glare and foreign bodies*.

  • After four days

    First follow-up

Four days after the treatment, your visual acuity will be examined without visual aids during the first follow-up. Normally, you will have reached almost full visual acuity by then, and a certificate can be issued to the road traffic office. You can basically return to your normal everyday life. Please continue to follow the hygiene measures and use the prescribed eye drops according to your eye drop schedule.

  • After 14 days

Second follow-up and back to everyday life

The second follow-up takes place after two weeks. With SMILE Pro as a treatment method, you will have already achieved full visual acuity and no longer have any major side effects. After these two weeks, you are allowed to swim, do sports, go to the sauna again, and use make-up and creams in the areas around your eyes. If you have any questions or require information, our medical team in the shop and our Customer Care Team by phone are always here for you.

*Please note that an individual’s sensitivity to pain and the perception of symptoms can vary from one person to another. Therefore, the process may be slightly different for you.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about SMILE Pro

These are the most important and frequent questions and answers about betterview. If you can't find the answer to your question here, please get in touch with us.

How well does SMILE Pro compare to other laser eye treatments?

While Femto LASIK creates a flap and TransPRK involves a significantly longer healing process, SMILE Pro combines the advantages of both treatment methods with a minimally invasive procedure and a quick and pain-free healing process.

What are the possible side effects of this laser eye treatment method?

Possible side effects of a SMILE Pro treatment are, as with any other refractive surgery procedure, temporary blurred vision in the first few hours and increased sensitivity to light and dry eyes in the first few days after treatment.

How long do the SMILE Pro results last?

In general, treatment with SMILE Pro is permanent, like any other laser eye treatment. Follow-up treatment is usually also possible with a sufficiently thick cornea. In such cases, correction takes place with TransPRK.

When can I expect to have full vision?

In the following days, you will already have significantly improved visual acuity, reaching around 80%. In general, you can then drive again after the certificate for the road traffic office has been issued. You will achieve full visual acuity about 3–4 days after the treatment.

Which cases are not possible with SMILE Pro?

SMILE Pro is not suitable for people with long-sightedness or presbyopia. As an alternative for long-sightedness, treatment with Femto LASIK or TransPRK is possible. Presbyopia can be corrected with a refractive lens exchange.

What should I be aware of after the SMILE Pro treatment?

After laser eye treatment with SMILE Pro, you must attend your follow-ups, stick to the recommended aftercare from our medical team and use the prescribed eye drops according to the drop schedule.

How much does a treatment with SMILE Pro cost?

Treatment with the SMILE Pro costs CHF 2,690 per eye at betterview. The fixed price includes all follow-ups, and the treatment is payable in instalments with 0% interest. Find more information on the pricing site.

Which betterview locations offer SMILE Pro?

SMILE Pro is available in Zurich, Lugano, Lausanne, and Geneva. If you have any questions or require further information, our medical team in the shop is always here for you.

What is the difference between ReLEX SMILE, ReLEx SMILE Pro and SMILE Pro?

ReLEx SMILE is a laser eye treatment method. SMILE Pro, also known as ReLEx SMILE Pro, is the faster, more precise and safer further development of ReLEx SMILE. The procedure is performed exclusively with the Zeiss Visumax 800 femtosecond laser. The laser is used to work with a thin corneal disc, the so-called lenticule, to correct the existing visual impairment.
