FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find the most important questions and answers about betterview. If your question is not answered here, please feel free to contact us directly.
Can I go blind from laser eye treatment?
No, in more than 25 years, there has not been a single case in which a person has gone blind directly due to laser vision correction. The laser works exclusively on the cornea—the optic nerve, for example, remains completely untouched during the treatment. In addition, our state-of-the-art eye lasers are equipped with a so-called eye tracker, which automatically switches off the laser at the slightest eye movement. Eye conditions such as infection can occur after laser treatment. Eye diseases occur very rarely and can be treated.
Is LASIK treatment painful?
No, treatment with the Femto LASIK does not cause any pain. During the treatment your eyes will be anaesthetised with eye drops. Also, after the procedure you will not feel any pain. A foreign body sensation in the first hours after treatment is normal.
Will I really be free of glasses after laser correction?
Yes. In case of a refractive error such as hyperopia, myopia or corneal curvature, the refractive power is too strong or too weak in relation to the eyeball. During laser eye treatment, the cornea is modelled with the laser so that light rays entering the eye can be refracted correctly again and a clear image can be displayed on the retina. The correction is permanent, and most clients can completely dispense with visual aids such as glasses or contact lenses after the procedure. Deterioration is very rare and affects, if so, clients who already had a very high diopter value before treatment.
Can I have my eyes lasered?
Generally, about 98% of all 18- to 45-year-olds are suitable for laser eye treatment. Laser treatment is possible for corneal curvature, short-sightedness and hyperopia long-sightedness up to certain diopter values. For those over the age of 45, refractive lens exchange is usually the better choice. The best way to find out whether you are suitable for one of these methods, and if so, which one, is to visit our shop in Zurich for a free preliminary examination.
Will the treatment last a lifetime?
As a rule, those treated can dispense with visual aids such as contact lenses or glasses in the long term after laser correction. With very high diopter values, vision can deteriorate again—but this is very rare. In most cases, laser treatment can be repeated. However, laser eye treatment does not prevent presbyopia, which occurs around the age of 45. This is a natural sign of ageing that can be compensated for using reading glasses or varifocals or, alternatively, permanently corrected by a refractive lens exchange.
Which laser procedure is best for me?
Refractive therapy consists of various laser procedures. At betterview, we only offer the latest proven methods: Femto LASIK and TransPRK. Femto LASIK is the gold standard and the world’s most frequently used laser eye treatment method. If you are unsuitable for Femto LASIK, TransPRK is an excellent alternative. If you book a free, no-obligation preliminary examination, we will tell you which treatment is best for you.
How does laser eye treatment work at betterview?
In a free, no-obligation preliminary examination, we determine whether you are suitable for laser eye treatment, among other things. If you do not meet the requirements, we may suggest implantable contact lenses or a refractive lens exchange as an alternative. In a second appointment, we carry out all the necessary examinations to prepare for the treatment. This second appointment is also free of charge and without obligation. If you decide to proceed, we will schedule an appointment for the short, pain-free treatment. For example, Femto LASIK takes less than 15 minutes and you will be able to resume your usual activities the following day. We normally do a brief follow-up the next day to determine whether your eyes have healed well and your vision is developing as expected.
