FAQ

Frequently asked questions

These are the most important and frequent questions and answers about laser eye treatment at betterview. If you can't find the answer to your question here, please get in touch with us.

Can I have my eyes lasered?

In principle, around 98% of 18 to 45-year-olds are eligible for laser eye treatment. Both astigmatism, short-sightedness and long-sightedness can be lasered (up to certain dioptre values). Refractive lens replacement is usually the better choice for people over 45. The best way to find out whether and for which of the methods you are eligible is during your free preliminary examination in our Zurich shop.

What is the procedure for laser treatment at betterview Basel?

In a non-binding and free preliminary examination in our shop in Basel, we will first determine whether you are suitable for laser eye treatment: Our medical specialists will check your cornea and your visual aids, among other things. During the subsequent consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. In a second appointment, you will have a free and non-binding main examination. Our optometrists will carry out all the examinations required for safe and successful treatment. The actual laser treatment on the day of treatment takes less than 15 minutes: Your eyes are anaesthetised with eye drops and then corrected with the laser. Depending on the method, the follow-up check takes place on the following day or five days later.

What happens during treatment with the LASIK method?

Femto-LASIK is one of the most frequently used laser eye surgery methods in the world. It is completely painless and only takes a few minutes per eye: to begin with, your eyes are anaesthetised with eye drops. The femtosecond laser is then used to create a circular flap in the uppermost layer of the cornea and fold it to the side. The corneal layer underneath, which is now exposed, can then be corrected with the excimer laser. Finally, the flap is returned to its original position. The flap acts like the body's own wound dressing, which is why the healing process is quick and painless. Most patients can look forward to significantly improved visual acuity the very next day.

Is LASIK treatment painful?

No, treatment with the Femto-LASIK method does not cause any pain. Your eyes are anaesthetised with eye drops during the treatment. You will not feel any pain after the procedure either. A foreign body sensation in the first few hours after the treatment is normal.

Which laser eye procedures are available at betterview in Basel?

At betterview, we exclusively use the most advanced laser eye procedures. The Femto-LASIK method is the gold standard and is one of the most commonly used laser eye methods worldwide. If you are not suitable for Femto-LASIK, laser correction with Trans-PRK may be an option. Alternatively, we offer lens implantation and refractive lens exchange as treatment methods.

Will I still need glasses and contact lenses after my laser treatment?

Most treated patients can completely stop using vision aids. In cases of very high diopter values, vision may deteriorate again. However, this is very rare and can often be corrected with a second laser treatment.

Can I go blind from laser eye surgery?

No, in over 25 years, there has not been a known case of someone going blind directly from laser eye surgery. Other eye conditions, such as infections, can occur after the procedure. However, these eye conditions are very rare and are treatable.

What is the success probability of my laser eye treatment?

Exceptionally high. In approximately 95% of treatments, there is no residual vision impairment after laser correction. If there is, it can usually be corrected with a second treatment.
