FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find the most important questions and answers about betterview. If your question is not answered here, please feel free to contact us directly.

Am I suitable for laser eye treatment?

You can find out whether you are suitable for laser eye treatment in a free, no obligation preliminary examination on site in our shop in Basel. In general, however, laser treatment is an option for most people and is suitable for correcting short-sightedness, long-sightedness and corneal curvature. For people over the age of 45, refractive lens exchange is usually more suitable than laser eye correction.

How does laser treatment at betterview in Basel work?

In a free, no obligation preliminary examination on site in our shop in Basel, our team will check whether you are suitable for laser correction. In a second appointment, all the necessary examinations required for safe and successful treatment are then carried out. The treatment itself takes place at a separate appointment and takes less than 15 minutes: your eyes are first anaesthetised with eye drops. The correction is then carried out with the laser. Depending on the treatment method, the follow-up takes place either the very next day or five days later. Our medical staff of ophthalmologists and optometrists are on hand to help you from start to finish.

What happens during laser correction?

During laser treatment with the Femto LASIK, your eyes are first anaesthetised with eye drops. Then a circular lid, the so-called "flap", is created with the femtosecond laser. This flap is folded to the side and the underlying corneal layer is exposed—it can now be ablated with the excimer laser in a way that the refractive power of the eye is corrected. Finally, the flap is folded back again. Since it adheres itself automatically, vision improves significantly within a very short time. Most of our clients are fully fit for work again the next day.

Does LASIK treatment cause pain?

LASIK treatment is not painful—neither during the procedure nor afterwards. In the first hours after laser treatment, a foreign body sensation in the eyes is normal.

Which laser procedures are available at betterview in Basel?

At betterview, only the most modern laser procedures are used. Femto LASIK is the gold standard and is one of the most frequently used laser eye treatments in the world. If you are not suitable for Femto LASIK, laser correction with TransPRK can be a possibility. Alternatively, we offer lens implantation and refractive lens exchange as a treatment method.

Will I really be free of glasses after laser correction?

Yes. In case of a refractive error such as hyperopia, myopia or corneal curvature, the refractive power is too strong or too weak in relation to the eyeball. During laser eye treatment, the cornea is modelled with the laser so that light rays entering the eye can be refracted correctly again and a clear image can be displayed on the retina. The correction is permanent, and most clients can completely dispense with visual aids such as glasses or contact lenses after the procedure. Deterioration is very rare and affects, if so, clients who already had a very high diopter value before treatment.

Can I go blind from laser eye treatment?

No. In more than 25 years, there has not been a single case in which a person has gone blind directly due to laser vision correction. Other side effects, such as infection, can occur after laser treatment and can be treated.

What is the chance of success of my laser eye treatment?

Exceptionally high. In about 95% of the treatments, there is no residual refractive error after the laser correction. However, if this does happen, it can usually be remedied by a second treatment.
