Fields of treatment

At betterview, we correct most refractive errors. We only use the latest laser technology for all treatments.

Short-sightedness

Need to know icon

Short-sightedness (myopia) usually occurs in the first three years of life and is caused by a refractive error of the eye. Myopia occurs when the eyeball is longer than usual. As a consequence, the light refracts in front of the retina instead of exactly on it. If you are affected by this condition, your close vision is clear, but your distant vision is blurry because the so-called focal point is not optimally located in the eye.

Long-sightedness

Need to know icon

Long-sightedness (hyperopia) is a refractive error of the eye. The eyeball is too short, or the refractive power of the eye is too weak in relation to its overall length. If you are affected by this condition, your distant vision is clear, but your close vision is blurry because the light rays that come in when you look into the distance are bundled to form a sharp image behind the retina.

Corneal curvature

Need to know icon

If your close and distant vision is poor or blurry, you may suffer from corneal curvature (astigmatism). Corneal curvature is often congenital and can have genetic causes. However, if corneal curvature occurs later in life, an injury, inflammation, or scarring is often the cause. In fact, a slightly curved cornea (up to 0.5 diopters) is quite common and considered more or less “normal.”

Other impairments

If you have symptoms besides those mentioned here, we determine in an individual examination if we can perform laser eye treatment to correct your impairment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

These are the most important and frequent questions and answers about laser eye treatment at betterview. If you can't find the answer to your question here, please get in touch with us.

What is the probability of success for my laser eye correction?

The success of laser correction is exceptionally high. In approximately 95% of treatments, there is no residual refractive error. If treatment doesn't restore the desired vision, we can usually repeat the process to achieve full vision.

Can my eyes be lasered several times?

Yes, if your cornea is thick enough.

Will laser eye treatment last a lifetime?

Yes. Usually, after your laser eye treatment, you won't need distance glasses for the rest of your life. Deterioration is very rare, and if it happens, it affects clients who already had a very high dioptre value before their treatment.

Are there any scientific studies and findings on laser eye treatment?

Laser eye treatment has been successfully performed since the 1990s. During this time, over 35 million corrections have taken place worldwide. Based on this large number, the following can be summarised from various studies:

  • About 90% of all clients with short-sightedness up to -6.00 dioptres can dispense with visual aids after laser eye treatment.
  • At 0.5%, the risk of complications is similarly low to that of people with contact lenses.

What ages are suitable for a laser eye treatment?

Generally, about 98% of all 18 to 45-year-olds are suitable for laser eye treatment. There may also be a possibility of laser vision correction for people over the age of 45. However, starting at the age of 45, a refractive lens exchange, replacing the body's own lens, is preferable and available at betterview. We will determine and discuss the most suitable treatment method for you in our free, no-obligation examinations.
